THE RELATION TO THE STREET
|
We wish the inhabitants of our designs to feel at home, not only in their house or apartment but also in their street, town or city. To this end the direct relationship between the building and the street is of vital importance and that is why we pay close attention to the transition between the house and the street. To achieve vibrancy and safety it is important that residential and work activities are situated on de street side as much as possible. In single-family homes we therefore situate the lively residential features on the street side and on the ground floor level of apartment buildings we aim for dwellings which are directly assessable from the street.
For the privacy of the residents, it is important to create adequate distance between the home and the street, for example by introducing a transition zone between the building and the street and/or elevate the building somewhat. The proper functioning of the ground floor of buildings is essential for the proper functioning of the city. |
